• Sochi is rightfully one of the warmest cities hosting the Winter Olympics. As you know, the city is located in the subtropics, and in winter the air temperature here averages 8 degrees above zero.

• The Olympic Games were held in Russia in 1980 in Moscow. Then it was the twenty—second (XXII) Summer Olympic Games, and in 2014 - the twenty-second (XXII) Winter Olympic Games.

• For the first time in the history of the Winter Games, a record number of 88 countries participated in Sochi. At the same time, athletes from Zimbabwe and Paraguay participated in the most prestigious sports competitions for the first time.

• Compared to Vancouver 2010, the number of competitions in various disciplines has increased by 12, for a total of 98 sets of medals.

• All Olympic facilities built in Sochi are the most compact in the history of these competitions. So, you can get from one facility to another in a few minutes, and from mountain sports facilities to coastal ones in less than 30 minutes.

• At the Olympic Games in Sochi, for the first time in the history of the Winter Olympics, competitions began on February 6, 2014, that is, the day before the opening. These were qualifying starts in such sports as slopestyle, mogul (ski freestyle) for men and women, and a figure skating team tournament. This happened because these sports were included in the Olympic program only in 2011, and if they had been held after the opening of the competition, they could have significantly disrupted the schedule.

• The Sochi Olympic torch relay has become the longest in history. The Olympic Flame began its journey on October 7, 2013 in Moscow and covered about 65,000 km. The main Olympic symbol visited all the republics of the country and was handed over by about 14 thousand torchbearers. But the starting point of the Sochi Olympic flame's journey was space.
