About the Games
At the start of the IV Olympic Winter Games, signs reading “No entry for dogs and Jews” were posted near toilets in the German villages of Garmisch and Partenkirchen. After a conversation between IOC President Henri de Baillet-Latour and Adolf Hitler, the signs were removed.
The biggest sensation of the Games was the defeat of the Canadian ice hockey team by Great Britain, whose squad consisted largely of Canadian-born players holding British passports.
At the opening ceremony of the IV Olympic Winter Games, the Olympic flame was lit ceremonially for the first time. The Games were officially opened by Adolf Hitler.
