The official mascot of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in 2022 in Beijing is a giant panda named Bing Dundun. The global competition, announced by the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee, attracted 5,800 sketches of the mascot not only from China, but also from 35 countries around the world. The choice of panda as the mascot of the Beijing Games was predictable, because the big panda is the national symbol of China. The panda was also one of the five mascots of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008.
