• The Olympic Torch Relay began on April 21 in the birthplace of the Olympic Games in Olympia, Greece, traversing Brazil in just over 90 days and ending its journey in Rio de Janeiro on August 5.

• For the first time, Olympians born in 2000 participated in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
• The competitions were held in four different zones: beach volleyball competitions on Copacabana Beach, Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca, Deodoro – aquatics competitions, the Olympic BMX Center and equestrian centers, as well as in Maracana, where there are two large stadiums.

• The program of the Games includes rugby-7 competitions. For the first time in 112 years, golf returned to the Olympics.
