About the Games

American figure skater Tenley Albright, who had suffered from polio in childhood, became the Olympic champion of the VII Winter Games while performing with a knee injury sustained during training.

The USSR national ice hockey team won Olympic gold, securing victories in all their matches.

During the opening ceremony, speed skater Guido Caroli, who was carrying the Olympic flame, tripped over a television cable and fell. As a result, the Olympic flame went out and had to be relit.
