About games

  • Milan Cortina 2026 will be the third Winter Olympics in Italy. The Winter Olympic Games will return to northern Italy 70 years after Cortina 1956 and two decades after Turin 2006. This time the competition will be hosted by two cities: the Cortina d'Ampezzo ski resort and Milan, the fashion capital and economic center of Italy.
  • The competitions will be held in three regions at once. Cortina is located in the center of the Dolomites, while Milan is the capital of Lombardy. In total, the area of 14 sports facilities will be 22 square kilometers, and they will spread from Lombardy to Veneto, including the provinces of Trento and Bolzano.
  • Ski mountaineering will make its debut in the Winter Olympics program in 2026. Ski mountaineering combines climbing mountains with skiing and then descending on them. Medals will be awarded in the sprint and individual races among women and men, as well as in the mixed relay. The same five disciplines were represented at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne.
  • Milan Cortina 2026 will also host competitions in the following disciplines: biathlon, bobsleigh, alpine skiing, curling, speed skating, cross-country skiing, ski racing, ski jumping, luge, skeleton, snowboarding, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey and short track.
