About the Games

For the first time, the Winter Olympic Games were held in the capital of a European state.

The youngest athlete in the history of the Winter Olympic Games — 12-year-old French figure skater Alain Giletti — placed 25th in the competition.

For the first time, computers were used to calculate scores in figure skating events, making it possible to instantly total the marks awarded by different judges.
