About the Games

  • The most successful dynasty in the history of the Olympic Games was the father and son Swahn, Swedish shooters Oskar and Alfred. Both took part in four Olympiads. Oskar won 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals, and his son Alfred won 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals. Together the family duo won 14 medals!
  • At the football tournament of the Games of the VIII Olympiad, South Americans appeared for the first time — the Uruguay national team reached the final and triumphed 3–0 against Switzerland.
  • At the Games of the VIII Olympiad, the legendary Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi won 5 gold medals, with 2 of them on the same day — in the 1500 m and 5000 m races.
