About the Games
The 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games were held from February 12 to 21, 2016, in Lillehammer, Norway. A total of 110 athletes representing 71 NOCs participated. A total of 70 medal events were contested. The competitions were held at the same venues that hosted the 1994 Olympic Games.
The Russian team won 24 medals (7 gold, 8 silver, and 9 bronze) – the best total ever. With a larger number of gold medals, the Russians finished ahead of the United States (10-6-0) and South Korea (10-3-3) in the unofficial team standings. Our athletes won medals in 12 of the 15 events, surpassing the result achieved four years earlier at the 1st Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck.
