About the Games

Beach and water sports competitions are held under the auspices of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). The first and, to date, only World Beach Games were held from October 12 to 16, 2019, in Doha, Qatar. A total of 1,237 athletes from 97 countries participated. Thirty-six medal events were contested in 13 sports and 14 disciplines.

Spain won the overall team standings at the Doha Games. Spain's athletes won seven gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

The Russian team reaped seven medals (2-2-3) on the beaches of Doha. In total, 23 Russian athletes out of the 55 who competed in the 2019 Games have added medals to their collections from the new multisport competition.

Five of the sports featured at Doha 2019 – open water swimming, karate, rock climbing, skateboarding, and 3x3 basketball – are included in the Tokyo Olympic Games, while kiteboarding will debut at Paris 2024.
