About the Games
Due to unusually warm weather, the four-man bobsleigh competition was held two days after the official closing of the Games.
Edward Eagan became the first athlete to win Olympic gold medals in both Summer and Winter sports. In Lake Placid, he won gold in the four-man bobsleigh, having previously won the boxing tournament at the Games of the VII Olympiad in Antwerp.
For the first time, the United States topped the unofficial medal standings at the Winter Olympic Games, winning 12 medals: six gold, four silver, and two bronze.
