Representing the Russian Olympic Committee at the event was figure skater and member of the ROC Athletes’ Commission, Deputy Chair of the EOC Athletes’ Commission Jonathan Gureiro.
The main focus of the discussion was the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, which will take place fr om 4 to 20 February 2022. Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, and Juan Antonio Samaranch, Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games, spoke about the progress of preparations for the competitions.
They also noted that, following numerous requests, the organizers had decided to allocate additional accreditations for athletes’ support personnel.
For his part, Jonathan Gureiro, speaking on behalf of Russian athletes, congratulated the IOC President on the successful staging of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. He also asked whether Olympians vaccinated with domestically produced vaccines would be able to avoid quarantine ahead of the Beijing 2022 Games.
According to IOC representatives, all vaccines recognized by the World Health Organization or by the governments of individual countries wh ere mass vaccination programs are being implemented will allow arrivals in China to enter the Olympic perimeter immediately.
In addition, representatives of National Olympic Committees and international sports federations discussed issues related to unrestricted internet access during the competition period, PCR testing methods for participants, and qualification procedures for the Olympic Games.
As noted by the IOC, 22 percent of Olympic quota places have already been allocated, with athletes from 66 National Olympic Committees securing qualification spots. The organization is currently making every effort to ensure equal qualification opportunities for all potential participants under pandemic conditions.
